Encountering God’s Timing
Sublime, supreme symmetry. Perfectly prompt plans, promises and prophecies. Lavish, laudable, longsuffering love. Faithful, fulfilling, forgiving, fierce, fawning Father. This is God. We are the fallen, the antithesis. Each of our creaturely encounters with Him inevitably results in a seismic shift in our souls. The ‘gap’ between our understanding and His majesty is immeasurable as Scripture reminds us so pointedly. The Pentecost ‘encounter’ we celebrate today is but one example of the extreme otherness of God’s timing and His ways (or, perhaps, the extreme otherness of our timing and our ways). We must readily concede inferiority to His supremacy that we also, like the disciples, might readily receive our impeccable, timely-sent, inheritance.
