From start to finish, the Good News has baffled the wisdom of the world (and not a few Christians!). Presented to us as one thing, with one faith, one Lord, one baptism, the fulness of the Gospel message has been filtered, sanitized, diluted, twisted, profiteered, sectarianized, politicized and rendered, by many, obsolete, if not dangerous. Despite all, God’s Word still stands, still declares truth, still calls for repentance, still offers eternal life, forgiveness of sins, friendship with Jesus. Errant voices, those attempting to eradicate absolutes in favor of ‘every man doing what is right in his own eyes,’ continue to find themselves shaking puny fists at the unshakeable, being thwarted by unrelenting Love, feverishly spinning a tale rife with believability gaps, heatedly crying foul at now-seen-as-discriminatory Biblical commandments. And yet…
