It’s New Year’s Eve, the ultimate day of 2020, the 7th Day of Christmas. It’s a time of saying hello, of saying goodbye, and of continuing in celebration of the One whose Light lights up all the gaps between our hellos and goodbyes. Speaking of Jesus, the Light, he shines from Albuquerque to Zagazig, from Asmara to Zlatoust and all points in between. Followers of Jesus worldwide now number approximately 2.5 billion (2,500,000,000), each one extending that light around them to their families, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. An estimated 500 billion (500,000,000,000) copies of his Word have been sold/distributed as of summer, 2020. The full Bible has been translated into 704 languages while the New Testament has been translated into 2255 languages. Jesus’ cross is considered the most easily recognizable religious symbol in the world. But better by far than all these scattershot figures is the knowing that Jesus’ light is shining in and through me and in and through each one of us! I can hear you asking, ‘What does that mean in practical terms for our launching into 2021?’ I’m so glad you asked! It means, because Jesus’ light already shines through to December 31, 2021, we can have confidence that the entire path ahead is fully prepared. It means that whatever the next months bring, Jesus has checked out each one and set his most fruitful plan in motion on our behalf. It means that sufficient outpourings of healings are in stock and ready for delivery at a moment’s notice. It means that surprises will be sweet and plentiful with a few miraculous thrown in for good measure (be on the lookout!). It means there is even brighter, more intensely-focused light available for when fears threaten to blot out the sun from our horizon. It means 365 days of Holy Spirit provisions/interventions/corrections in the wings ready and able to run defense on rash behaviors and foolishnesses and ‘absentmindednesses’. It means, after all’s said and done, there is no risk ahead worth talking about and there is great peace in store as we walk out the year’s hurdles and storms with him by our side, holding our hand if we’ll let him. And just so you know, it’s OK to be a like a little kid with him and let him hold your hand. He actually encourages it.  So, here’s to a 2021 brimming over with Jesus awareness, Jesus goodness, Jesus friendship!  I’ll have another eggnog now. Happy New Year, y’all!  PD
