The ‘After’* Effect
A well-known characteristic of earthquakes is a series of aftershocks, some of which are significant in intensity and often damaging, though usually less so than the initial tremor. Pentecost had its own share of aftershocks with some as seismic in scope as that spectacular in-rush of Pentecost Spirit. To say that Jesus’ disciple/friends were being stretched would hardly do justice to the newly begun hyperactivity of their days. They were Spirit super-saturated and catapulted into an exhilarating succession of miracles and signs and wonders, all of which staggered their imaginations as much as it did those around them. (there had to have been an unleashing of holy laughter, too, even though Luke didn’t record it for us)
