Life Resourced in Hiddenness
New life was a recurring theme of Jesus’ ministry, the life springing up because of his death. Old life was that of fallen humanity, of those weighed down by their inherited rebellious brokenness. Jesus presented himself as the Vine, the Shepherd, the Mother Hen, the New Covenant, the Friend with the Greatest Love. These spoke of vital attachment, of secure surroundings, of safe covering, of permanent transferral, of unbreakable brotherly bonds, and all spoke of a glory-conferring, dynamic hiddenness. This new life, still cloaked in mystery, is now vicariously ours by means of Jesus’ sacrificial death on Calvary.
