Random is not a descriptor of the story of God in Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation there are continuous threads weaving a central theme. The God of Creation, our God, is, as the Book of Deuteronomy declares, ‘One!’ In the New Testament, James tells us God has no shadow of turning. He is changeless. However, in our fallen, sin-beleaguered state, we are changeful, broken, fickle, restless, wayward. The single Song being sung throughout the Word furnishes us with great, soaring hope. We are seen. We are known. We are loved. We are abundantly provided for in our multiple weaknesses: our leanings toward detours, disobediences, dysfunctions, and plain old dumb sheep decisions.
