Dream scenario: You see a sign indicating a Contractor Open House. Intrigued, you decide to check it out. On arrival, you take in a gorgeous, brand-new home. It’s obviously way beyond the reach of your budget, but you’ve arrived, so why not go in and check out the interior? You’re met by a friendly couple who are the builders. They welcome you in and, after giving a few background details, give you the freedom to explore at your leisure. Everything is incredibly well-finished and the entire house is designer decorated to a very high standard. Returning to the entry, the couple asks for your opinion of all you’ve seen. You are effusive with praise, admitting, sorrowfully, that it isn’t something you could ever, in a million years be able to afford. The couple beams in appreciation of your kind words, seeing how much you love all that they’ve done to make this house perfect. They half-jokingly ask where your dream location would be for a house like this and, playing along now, you say it would be amazing in a setting with a lake view. They respond by asking what you’d think of it being a mountain lake with the view of a waterfall as well. Laughing, you admit that that would be primo. When they ask what you thought of the way it was furnished, you continue to heap praises on all their choices. You shake their hands as you prepare to leave, when they say, since you love this house, we will build it for you in the location we mentioned and it will be fully furnished just like this one. It’s now time to be serious, since they seem to have missed your telling them your budget wouldn’t come close to affording a home like this. You are stunned when they say that, simply because you love their work, their baby, they will provide it at no cost, fully furnished and will cover the insurance as well! End of dream scenario.
Because we are lovers of His Son, God provides us with a forever home at no cost (Jesus having already paid for it on our behalf). And while a mountain lake view plus view of a waterfall (or whatever your preferred location might be) would be extraordinary, Salvation’s provision of forgiveness of sins, adoption papers, an eternal home in the loving community of the Trinity, surely makes the first offer pale in comparison. King David would agree: “Look at the splendor of your skies, your creative genius glowing in the heavens. When I gaze at your moon and your stars, mounted like jewels in their settings, I know you are the fascinating artist who fashioned it all! But I have to ask this question: Why would you bother with puny, mortal man or care about human beings? Yet what honor you have given to men, created only a little lower than Elohim, crowned with glory and magnificence.” (Psalm 8, TPT) PD
