When movie and music celebrities, sports icons, politicians, scientists, etc., sit down to write the stories of their lives, their autobiographies, they prepare themselves to put into writing, the events of their lives which have shaped them. Many take time for this most personal undertaking when they’ve retired, or after a life-changing passage. Anyone who has followed them or is familiar with their career, anxiously awaits the read, anticipating details never before discussed in public. This style of writing often includes intimate details of family life, the trials and errors of youth, the rescues, the big breaks, etc. Previously unanswered questions are satisfied. Closing the book after reading the last page makes you sit back, warmed with the feeling you have gotten to really know the author. It’s a book you’ll want to pass on to family and friends, convincing them they’ll love it, too.
Many, if not all of us, have multiple copies of God’s story, His autobiography, the Bible. And what a story it is! Those who’ve read it fall in love with Him and strongly desire for family and friends to read it, too. It’s a real page turner! It unblushingly includes murders, jealousies, betrayals, infidelities, wars, foreign takeovers, exile, restoration, forgiveness, weddings, births, funerals, miracles; in short, just about every kind of joy and strife and cringeworthy circumstance imaginable.
The theme, running from page one to the final Amen! is love. Not just any kind of love either, but a kind of love unknown except in His book, in Him. Then comes the jaw-dropping disclosure; we’re in there, we’re included! We are a central part of the love story God is telling! The Eternal, Creator God hatched a plan, and He’s stuck to it through millennia – without wavering despite our wanderings, our waywardness, our stiff-necked attitudes (that’s what His kind of love always does). He has made His home our home, His family, our family. He has forever had our names registered in His adoption records. He has given us a purpose, an assignment, along with the gifts and abilities to carry it out successfully.
Think about it! Who but God does this? Who is like our God? Who but God is deserving of all praise, all worship? And He chooses to be glorified by our worship of Him! (mind reeling). Can’t wait to see all you fellow chosen adoptees tomorrow, 10 AM, 3 PM UK, 4 PM FR. PD
