I suspect God smiles in kindly amusement at our ‘great’ achievement of having reached the moon, just one of His heavenly bodies observable from earth. The moon is accompanied by 100,000,000 (or so) stars in our Milky Way Galaxy. Our galaxy is accompanied by roughly 2,000,000,000,000 (that’s trillion) other galaxies throughout the universe. (That conservative estimate is based on what the latest telescopes are capable of detecting.) By my reckoning, that makes the number of stars God has placed in the universe at 2 trillion times 100 billion! (Brain melting down!)
It’s fascinating to read that scientists are saying the universe continues to expand. (this is not an article for scientific publishing, BTW). Just to think of this majestic, and living, expanse causes profound wonderment, doesn’t it? Whether the prophet Isaiah was aware of all this as he wrote out God’s words or just copied them down in believing obedience, is a qders question I’d like to ask him someday. ‘Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.’ Isaiah 40:26, NLT. And this One! This celestial Star – maker/illuminator/positioner/namer, is the Lover of my soul!
Not only that, He is YAHWEH, our Kinsman-Redeemer, Savior, Mighty God, Holy One of Israel, numberer of our days, counter of the hairs on our heads, Gentle Shepherd, Forgiver of our sins, closer than a Brother, faithful, by our side companion, and if that isn’t enough, yes, He is the lover of our souls! So why would we ever complain? How could we say the Lord doesn’t see our troubles? How could we ever say the Lord ignores us? Let’s follow the Psalmist’s advice. PD
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
Let the skies be filled with praise and the highest heavens with the shouts of glory!
Go ahead – praise him, all you his messengers! Praise him some more, all you heavenly hosts!
Keep it up, sun and moon! Don’t stop now, all you twinkling stars of light!
Take it up even higher – up to the highest heavens, until the cosmic chorus thunders his praise!
Let the entire universe erupt with praise to God,
He spoke and created it all – from nothing to something he established the cosmos to last forever,
and he stands behind his commands so his orders will never be revoked.
PSALM 148:1-6, TPT
