The Prophet Isaiah (9:2) spoke a hope-filled word about a people walking in darkness, seeing a great light (the brightness of God’s glory). That brightness has been veiled from mankind, by sin, since the Fall. Ex. 33:20 says ‘no man can see God and live’ (in our mortal, sinful state we can’t withstand the direct, unfiltered glory of God). When the time was right, God sent His Son, clothed in flesh, to live as a man, to ‘inaugurate eschatology,’ or initiate the Last Days, the End Times, the Church Age, the ever-approaching Dawn. Jesus’ life and teachings and healings pointed to the already present ‘now’ Kingdom and a future ‘not yet’ Kingdom of total peace (Shalom) that would reign over the world. He entrusted the continuance of the initiated process with his disciples.
