Beautiful Blessed Silent Saturday

by | Apr 9, 2026

“For God alone my soul waits in silence.  From Him comes my salvation.  He is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken” Ps 62:1&2 ESV

After Jesus was captured, crucified and buried in the tomb, can you imagine the solemn silence the disciples experienced. They scattered and were left alone with their own thoughts:  “I thought He was the Messiah”, “Are they going to crucify me as well?”  We too have our own thoughts when God seems silent: “Where are you God?” “It wasn’t supposed to turn out this way,” “I thought you loved me.”

But silence can be beautiful. In the silence we must speak to our soul. Last year when my secure foundations were shaken: my identity, finances, relationships, and ability God commanded me to “Be joyful always” (1Thessalonians 5:16).   I had to command my soul to be joyful. I had to remind the core of my being that my joy is based on Christ alone!  I had to refocus my thoughts to the blessed truth in God’s word:

                   *God is good Ps 145:9

                   *God is for me Rom.8:31

*I can do all things through

                      Him who gives me strength

                      Phil 4:13

                   * I am His most treasured

                    possession Ps135:4

                   * In Him is full redemption

                      Ps.130:9

                    *He restores all things Acts

                       3:21

*It is enough to just simply

                        be  a servant of God

                      1Cor.6:19-20

In the silence God speaks the loudest. Ps.46:10- Be still and know that I am God. Job 33:14 nlt- For God speaks again and again though the people do not perceive it. Ehv- God does speak, sometimes one way, sometimes another but people do not pay attention to it.

God is Always working (Jn 5:17)

And

God is Always Speaking

*Through Creation ( Ps. 19, Romans 1)

*Through His word (2Tim.3:16)

*Through Christ (1Cor.2:16,John 1)

*Through the Holy Spirit (Jn 14:26, Rom.8:16, Mt. 10:20, 1Jn 2:27)

Did Silent Saturday really have to be silent? Were they just so consumed with their own thoughts that they could not remember the words of Christ, “I will rise on the third day.”

God tells us to pray continually.

(1 Thess 5:16) Prayer is not just presenting requests to God, it is a two-way communication available 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.  When the veil was torn, it made this intimate access constantly available.

God is never silent. However, it does not mean that we always get the answers or directions we are expecting exactly when we want them. There are parts of God’s plan that are not revealed to us intentionally for His own good purposes.  There can also be some blocks to hearing his voice: sin, broken places in our heart, misconceptions of God from our past, busyness and simply a matter of discipleship and growth (practice makes perfect). This can seem like silence, abandonment, or God taking a holy holiday in the Bahamas.

In those moments: open His Word, meditate on it, do what it says, pay attention to the gentle whisper in our soul, go outside in nature, gaze at the stars, stand on the shore of the beach,  play worship music, pray with active listening. Be still and know…

God is never silent.  It is we who need to quiet our soul to hear.

     Beautiful Blessed Silence.
