By Psalm 44

We were dead to begin with, dead as a doornail (Ephesians 2:1).  In life he was our business partner, Jacob (deceiver, aka our old nature).  The firm he built, Guilty &Guilty, forged the chains that bound us. We will be visited by three manifestations of the Spirit of Christ in our past, present and future as scribed in Psalm 44. When the verse strikes 1-3; we see the Spirit of Christ Past reminding the unknown psalmist, who we will call Ebeneezer Dude (One looking for The Stone of Help), of what the Lord had already done.  “It was not by their sword they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory, it was His right hand, His arm and the light of His face that brought the victory.”  And why? Simply because He loved them. It was not how many gold coins saved. Nor was it how many hours “Ebeneezer” spent at the office.  It was not his ability or education. IT was God and His favor that was upon them that they had success.

When the verse strikes 4-25, we see the Spirit of Christ Present empathizing with us through the writings of this Psalmist.  This crotchety “scrooge” has some of the same feelings we go through when difficulties arise.  He feels rejected (9), given up to be devoured (11), scattered (11), disgraced (15), crushed by God himself (19), dying (22), forgotten (24), doing right doesn’t really matter (25), in the lowest place possible-the dirt (25).  This is how Ebeneezer Dude is feeling, BAH HUM BUG! But God is still King and God.  We can feel all the above emotions, but the Spirit of Christ which is PRESENT is still on the throne providing for us exceedingly beyond all we could ever need, ask, or imagine.  (2 Corinthians 9:8, Ephesians 3:20)

Finally, the Spirit of Christ Future strikes at verse 26.  This is our future.  This is our hope. This is our cry. “Rise up and help us, redeem us because of your unfailing love”.  Christ paid a very high price for us to be set free from all the lies above.  His Word, His Truth brings the light we need out of the dark pit.  We are accepted, not rejected (Eph.1:6 KJV); given life to the fullest, not devoured (John 10:10); united to Christ, not scattered (1Cor.6:17&Eph.2:21); sharing in God’s glory, not disgraced (Ro.8:17); built up, not crushed (Col.2:7); given eternal life, not dying (Jn 3:16), thought about more than the grains of sand, never forgotten (Ps.139:17); even a cup of cold water given because we’re His disciple will be rewarded, it all matters to Him (Mt.10:42); raised us up and seated in the heavenly realms, not brought down to the dust our bodies clinging to the ground (Eph.2:6)  Embracing this truth makes us “light as a feather”, “happy as an angel”, “merry as a schoolboy”! Let it always be said of us, that we knew how to keep Christ well. And in so doing as Tiny Timothy observed (6:21) “God bless us, everyone”!
