“Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief!” (Mk. 9:24) One source of encouragement throughout Scripture is the number of times men and women openly express their weakness and confusion and even their anger, to God, without recrimination or rejection. We, like those mentioned, are (often) real and messy and undone and unlovely, too. And in those conditions, we, like they, are loved and cherished and invited to come and abide near God’s heart. But incredibly beyond that even, we are set apart, commissioned, and fully equipped by the Holy Spirit, as ambassadors, representatives of the Lord of Lords and King of Kings wherever we go, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, for as long as He puts his breath in our lungs!
