A consistent Bible theme: certain consequences for disobedience. It is illustrated from Eden, the people of Noah’s day, Abraham, Moses, David, the entire people of Israel, through to the New Testament account of people rejecting Jesus as Messiah. The Biblical account is replete with the cycle of warnings, punishments, and restorations. Like in all parental chastising, the main lesson to be learned is that proper discipline has as an end goal the restoring of safe, healthy boundaries and loving, strengthened relationships. The power of the entire sixty-six books of the Bible continues calling us to pay close attention, to guard our hearts, to heed the Spirit’s promptings.
